Transmission Best Practice

The purpose of the RAP (Regulatory Assistance Project) study was to review best practice for integrating renewables and governance arrangements in transmission systems in Brazil, China, India, Spain and the USA (particularly New York and the Western Interconnect).

EMRC undertook a review of the challenges in integrating renewable energy. We discussed an international comparison of techniques used to incorporate renewable energy projects. This included transmission planning, the process for allowing new investment, cost recovery (including transmission charging, cost allocation and management of congestion), as well as operational issues (including variability, frequency control, voltage control, power wave quality and dispatch priority).
