Scaling Up Transmission in Africa

This assignment will help the World Bank and African counterparts understand how to mobilise private finance for electricity transmission infrastructure in Africa.

The study will analyse and expand the knowledge of frameworks and models and underlying ecosystems for scaling-up Independent Power Transmitters (IPTs) in Africa and provide recommendations on specific pipeline transactions.

EMRC provided an expert to assist with the overview and assessment of the nature and scale of transmission investment in Africa to date, the role of IPT, and the countries/projects where IPT has been considered.

We carried out analysis of existing and projected electricity demand; and projected trends in generation, as well as the availability of generation resources (electricity supply).
